New Scientist has an
article about Africa wanting to become nuclear. I'm not against nuclear at all, but in stable countries with nuclear generation capabilities is scary. I seem to remember GE designing a self contained Nuke reactor for this very application. I'll try and find a link later. That might be an acceptable solution. Give a poor country a contained nuke. They can buy fuel and give back the waste. They don't have to worry about waste and the rest of the world doesn't have to worry about some crazy despot making dirty or nuclear bombs. Though as the article mentions "green" technology would be better. Nuclear and green are better than coal though. And most developing counties use coal because it's abundant and cheap. So Wind, Solar, Wave > Nuclear > Coal.
