So I need health insurance and was pointed towards Golden Rule Insurance. I should have been tipped off by their hideous website. It looks like the info pages were a straight cut and paste form their brochure. I bet they used Adobe to create the HTML. I decided to try anyway. Their application process is painful. Beyond the standard who are you and where do you live things, they ask if you have ever been to the doctor in the last 10 years. Ten years!!! Holy crap. Well of course I have. Then they want you to list absolutely everything you went for. I listed I got an MRI and had headaches. Pretty much anything you check you've experienced in the last 10 years you have to explain. Well fine I did that. Then they ask if you plan on going to the doctors in the next 6 months. I, being stupid and naive said yes, my knee really hurts. That was my ultimate mistake. Forget being truthful, just lie.
I had someone call me a few days later to clarify somethings. I intentionally left them vague and they had text boxes with maybe a 20 character width. Not exactly a huge area to explain anything. She asked really invasive questions about my headaches and MRI. Again I told the truth and said I planned on going to the doctors for my knee. The next week I get 2 pieces of mail from them. One saying they will bill me every 15th of the month. The second with a refund check for the monthly premium they took from my bank account. No declination letter or any explanation. But for some stupid reason they deduct money during the application, before they decide they are going to take you on. I called to see why I was declined or WTF was going on. Apparently my state does not allow long term riders. So they could not say we will insure you excluding your knee. What the hell, I thought that was illegal. I don't even have a documented knee problem and they already want to decline me? I had an argument with the lady on the other end of the phone. I claimed they only want to insure healthy people and declined me for no reason. I think I want to call back and bitch some more. I could not get to into it at work....
